DIY TV Frame

Turn An Old TV Into The Frame TV

If you’re like me then you don’t want to waste your money throwing away a perfectly good TV just because it’s old. In order to save some money, I decided to make a DIY TV frame and also turned it into a smart TV. See how I figured out a way to transform this TV into a new and improved Frame TV with these simple hacks.

DIY TV Frame

I cut 2″ pine wood trim to the size of the TV frame. I used a Ryobi mitre saw to cut the corners at a 45-degree angle to give it a more professional look. If you don’t have access to a mitre saw then you could also use a hand saw with an angle guide.

I used 2″ corner brackets to hold the frame together and used a hot glue gun to secure the brackets. You could use a better adhesive like liquid nails, as it was difficult to get the hot glue to stick to the brackets. You could also use 3/8″ screws to secure the brackets but I didn’t have any on hand.

Velcro command strips were placed on each side of the frame and left the velcro in tack until I placed it on the TV frame.

I then stained the frame using Varathane Classic Wood Stain in the colour Hazelwood to give it an aged grey hue.

Once the stain had dried for 1 hour and then placed the wooden frame onto the TV frame, making sure the command strips did not touch the TV screen.

Smart TV

If you want to turn your TV into a smart TV, you can purchase a Firestick, which plugs into an HDMI port in the back of your TV. Once plugged in, your TV will update to a smart TV and you will be able to add apps, like YouTube, onto your TV.

In order to add the screen artwork, you can click on the Youtube app and search “TV art”. There you can choose the desired artwork that you would like to display. These videos are typically 1 hour long, ad-free, photos.
