After a year of delays, our main bathroom is finally complete and I couldn’t be happier with the results. We were on a tight budget of $3,000 so I had to get crafty and do some serious deal-finding for this small bathroom renovation.
If you are looking for some inspiration about small bathroom ideas then you’ve come to the right place, I will tell you all the in’s and out’s of our bathroom remodel.

Classic White Subway Tiles
I’m so in love with this simple classic white subway tile shower with Corian stone niche shelves. In all honesty, I wasn’t feeling the most confident about all the cuts in the shower niche and opted for a corian stone shelf and surround. It was a bit of a splurge but it elevated the entire shower and made a big impact. Also, Corian is a man-made stone and is very cost-effective compared to other stones like marble or granite. It cost less than $300 to do our window frame and shower niche which was cheaper than purchasing a Kerdi Shower niche with a shelf.
Linen Curtains
Full-length linen curtains transformed our bathroom. I was lucky enough to have these gifted to me by Two Pages Curtains and I couldn’t be happier with the quality. Having full-length curtains made our ceilings look taller and gave a luxurious feel to our small bathroom.
To keep the natural linen texture I kept the curtains unlined, they are stunning when the sunlight shines through the window through the curtains.
Curtain Details:
Curtains: Lacey 100% linen drapery soft top
Colour: Safari
Header Style: 4-in-1
Liner Type: Unlined
Panel Measurements: 62″ x 89″ (x2 Panels)
Curtain Rod: Jaylon curtain rod 44-78″
Ceiling-Mounted Curtain Rod
This ceiling-mounted curtain rod is a total show-stopper. I love the mix having an elegant yet modern classic black rod to match the style of our bathroom. These curtain rods are so affordable on Amazon and come in several color options.
Since the curtain rod is difficult to remove, I opted for curtain rings that open to easily remove from the rod and also clip directly onto the curtain and shower liner.
Shower System
I searched high and low for the perfect shower system at an affordable price and eventually came across this shower system. A modern, round chrome showerhead with a handheld sprayer was a non-negotiable for me. I found this beautiful shower system on Amazon that also came with a valve for an amazing price. (My shower system is currently out of stock so I will link a similar one!)
Adding A Window
My husband and I went back and forth about the pros and cons of adding a window. I, personally, love bathrooms with natural sunlight, I’m not a fan of turning on the light during the day and who doesn’t love glancing out the window from the toilet? My husband was worried about the process of adding a window but when we took out the old shower surround we noticed that the previous owners covered an old window frame, which felt like it was meant to be.
We have an exterior wall that attaches to the center of the shower wall which meant that we were very limited on the size of window we could have. I wanted to go as big as possible without having to go custom so I found a 24″x36″ window from Home Depot that fit the space perfectly.
I added a non-adhesive reeded glass window film, which lets a ton of light in while keeping the bathroom private.
Custom Window Blinds
We framed the window with Corian stone, which left us with an odd-sized window, therefore we had to have a custom window blind made. I was hesitant at first because I never believed that having a custom window blind was worth all the fuss but was lucky enough to have this custom window blind gifted to us from SelectBlinds.ca. I was amazed by how much you could customize, from the size of blinds, down to an 1/8″ of an inch, the valance style, blind style, as well as the color of blinds. Once I saw all the samples of white to choose from, I was hooked. I was able to match the exact color of our stone and I’m so happy with the results.

Blind Style: 2 1/2″ Designer Faux Wood Blinds
Color: Aesthetic White
Valance Style: Modern
Bathroom Vanity
The vanity was a challenge because I loved how it functioned with all the drawers but it, obviously, didn’t fit the vibe with all the dark wood. I looked endlessly for a cheap alternative with drawers but came up empty-handed so I decided to paint the cabinet and replace the sink top. We saved hundreds of dollars by painting the cabinet, replacing the hardware, and vanity top with one I found on Clearance at Home Hardware.
Flooring
The main criteria for the flooring in our small bathroom was to be inexpensive and low maintenance. I’m obsessed with vintage white tile floors but I knew they would constantly get dirty with everyone using the bathroom. I settled for these Enigma, Eden Ice 12″x24″ porcelain tiles from Home Depot Canada.
I wasn’t sure if they would suit the look I was going for but after the vanity and bathtub were installed, I began to fall in love with them. They are a warmer light grey, keeping them very low maintenance and not overpowering in such a tiny space. I didn’t want anything too modern and these were the perfect mix of classic and modern that we will love for years.
Integrated Flooring Vent
Since the bathroom is so small the old floor vent really stood out and was quite an eyesore. I was able to swap out our old vent with this integrated flooring vent that allows you to add a piece of your flooring. We get so many compliments on the vent and have them installed in our main rooms because they are so beautiful. Please keep in mind that there are less expensive, plastic vents but they will break if you step on them so I recommend purchasing the metal vents in any high-traffic areas.
Bathroom Decor
Vanity Light- The vanity light was a steal on Amazon and I love the modern farmhouse style. Unfortunately, they are currently out of stock but I will attach a similar light.
Vanity Mirror- I came across this mirror at Homesense, that was the perfect size for our vanity. I love the rounded corners, it’s like it was made for our bathroom. (I will attach a similar mirror on Amazon for those interested)
Bathroom Faucet – The faucet has a simple modern chrome style to match our shower system. It suited the bathroom perfectly and was very affordable.
