MOST POPULAR PLANT CUTTINGS LISTED BELOW
If you are crazy about plants then you will be happy to know that your little investments can actually put money right back into your pocket. Here are all the best tips on how to make money selling plant cuttings.
1. Sell cuttings on Facebook Marketplace
- I sold my unrooted cuttings for $5-$15 per cutting
- I sold my rooted cuttings for double what I was charging per unrooted cutting
- I would split my plants and sell smaller plants for $5-$20 although this was not as profitable as cuttings
- I was able to do this 2-3 times a year and could make between $200-$300 within the week.
2. Selling plant cuttings on Etsy
- I created an Etsy page and sold rooted and unrooted plant cuttings throughout Canada from April- October.
- I made $10-$25 per plant and made up to $2000 a month (keep in mind that this money is taxed)
- I would sell small plants that were slim enough to fit in a boxslot so that you would only have to pay for the box and a stamp in order to keep shipping costs down
- In order to keep up with the demand I found a local nursery that sold inexpensive plants. I would take them home and break them up into smaller plants. For example, I would buy a plant for $10, break it up into 4-5 smaller plants, and sell them on Etsy for $12-$15 each.
- This was also a lot more work because you had to properly package and label the orders, confirm them, and take them to the post office. Make sure you price accordingly so that you are making adequate money for the time you are spending.
MOST POPULAR PLANTS TO SELL
- Variegated/ non-variegated String Of Hearts
- Variegated/non-variegated String Of Pearls
- Monstera Adansonii (large and small)
- Hoya Hindu Rope (most profitable)
- String Of Dolphins
- Philodendron Micans

TIPS ON SELLING
- The more exotic the plant, the more money you can charge. For example, a variegated Monstera Deliciosa costs $300-$500 per cutting in my area.
- Selling is more profitable during the cold months when stock is low in the stores.
- Do not invest in plants you cannot keep alive, start with simple plants like hoyas, pothos, and monsteras if you don’t have a green thumb yet.
- Remember that variegated plants need more light and love, they are typically more expensive so start with a cheap variegated plant and then work your way up to a more expensive plant.
