Tips On How I Buy And Sell Furniture On

Facebook Marketplace

This post may contain affiliate links, which means I’ll receive a commission if you purchase through my link, at no extra cost to you.

The Key To Profiting:

  • Buy an item that you can quickly refinish for as cheap as possible, if it is damaged don’t buy it!
  • Look for small items that are easily transportable, I typically look for chairs and small dressers that fit in an SUV
  • Make sure the items are not damaged if you want a quick flip, I try to just give it a quick sand, paint and clear coat
  • Use a primer, I use the Zinsser Bulls Eye primer so that I don’t have to sand off the top clear finish.
  • You can use any paint once the primer is on but I prefer to use Rust-Oleum Chalked Paint
  • Stick to neutral colors, I prefer to use white paint, light grey, and black paint with a stained accent drawer. Look online to see what is popular and selling quickly.
  • A topcoat is a MUST, this will make the piece look more professional and keep it from scratching. There are many types of clear coat options, I prefer the Varathane water-based topcoat. I like to use water-based products because my paintbrushes can be easily cleaned with soap and water.
  • Offering transportation will increase your chances of selling an item. Many people don’t have the ability to pick up the items so I prefer to offer delivery within reason.
  • Use a paint sprayer or roller for a smooth finish. I’ve painted many dressers and tables with a roller but I prefer to use my Wagner paint sprayer for chairs or intricate pieces that are difficult to paint with a roller.
  • Know your margins, I like to profit at least $100 from each item, the larger the item the more profit you can make.
  • Take aesthetically pleasing photos. Photos will make or break the sale of an item, be sure to keep your photos light and bright!

I hope this gave you some great tips on how to flip furniture quickly and easily every month. If you enjoyed this post, you might also like my other side hustle posts HERE.
