I loved the function of our bathroom vanity but not the style, it was incredibly dated. Unfortunately, vanities with drawers cost upwards of $800 so I decided to try to give ours a makeover. See how I gave this old bathroom vanity a makeover for less than $300.

Primer
Our vanity was very dark brown wood so I used multiple coats of white Bulls-Eye 1-2-3 Primer to prevent the brown colour from showing through the paint. In order to create a smooth finish I used a lint-free microfibre roller and a 2″ brush.
Paint
I let the primer dry for 24 hours before applying the paint. I used interior semi-gloss paint in the colour Chantilly Lace by Benjamin Moore. Again, I used a lint-free microfibre roller and a 2″ brush to eliminate any brush strokes.
Vanity Top
Our vanity top was cracked so we decided to replace it with a new one. We were lucky to find one on clearance for $200 at Home Hardware. We weren’t able to find a vanity top with an off-center sink bowl so we added a 2″ piece of wood on top of the vanity cabinet to keep the sink bowl from touching the drawer.
In order to hide the 2″ piece of wood, I added a 2″ piece of trim and quarter round trim with a nail gun. I filled the holes with spackling and caulked the seams, I let it dry for an hour and sanded the spackling smooth with 220 grit sandpaper before painting it with the matching cabinet paint.
Faucet
If you’re curious about our faucet, we purchased the Pfister Zeelan single-handle faucet from Home Depot. Our old faucet functioned well but it just wasn’t fitting the vibe, if you know what I mean… This faucet is much more modern and matches the style of our shower faucet (which you’ll get to see soon!).
Hardware
I purchased some new black knobs to update the old porcelain knobs on our vanity, I also wanted to change the bottom drawer to a cabinet pull. I found some affordable knobs on Amazon, you can find the link to the knobs HERE and the 5″ cabinet pull HERE.
I am so happy with how our vanity turned out on such a tight budget. It’s amazing what a little paint and creativity can do! Please follow along to see the rest of our bathroom renovation.
